THIS POST CONTAINS NO EXTERNAL LINKS WHICH IS HOW YOU CAN TELL

IT IS FROM ME, ACTUAL FUCKING RAVE.

i'm rushing from thing to thing today so this is gonna be short, but dorkorific can't be recovered at the moment (ETA 2: omg yes it can, it's me again, GO TEAM. all is back under control there as of now. but i'm still feeling a little freaked, so, you know, whatever; i'm gonna keep using sashayed mostly, for now. ANYWAY) as it was explained to me today in an email from abuse, "The problem here is that hotmail.com is apparently allowing old usernames to be recycled. Someone can register an old email that was validated on an account, and request an email reset. This appears to be the case with your account 'dorkorific'." but it appears that, until something else goes wrong, i now have control over the community, so, you know, EAT IT, EVERYBODY ELSE.

if any other entries DO appear here, and they link to external sources, PLEASE don't click on them. (the only non-lj site i'd send you to is the incredible lomara's .pdf files of the shoebox chapters, an awesome resource which you can find linked somewhere in cult_sbp.) when we get the entries back, ladyjaida and i will both confirm that we've done so.

to anyone who DID click on those links, this is the important thing, via copperbadge, to whom this also happened:

A number of people found keyloggers on their computers after they clicked the russian poetry site link. A few people actually attempted to translate it (the poem is about eating shit, apparently) and are regretting it. We are advising people to go to pack.google.com and download the free Spyware Doctor and run a scan, also running a scan via Housecall if they don't have an installed antivirus program on your computer.

i'm so sorry about all of this, everyone. and, okay, i lied, since i have no time to do anything similarly helpful there will be just one link: to copperbadge's amazingly useful entry on his version of this whole ordeal. (MAYBE HOVER OVER IT WITH YOUR MOUSE BEFORE YOU CLICK JUST TO MAKE SURE I AM NOT LYING, THIS IS A GOOD HABIT FOR THE FUTURE TOO.) http://copperbadge.livejournal.com/1940548.html.

so basically, 1. download a solid antivirus program; 2. check any hotmail accounts you have to make sure they haven't lapsed, 3. change your passwords and set a security question, and 4. don't click on anything you're not sure about.

love you guys. more to come!

ETA ONE THING: this happened to me because i, stupidly, wasn't monitoring which email addresses were linked to my account. i don't think this is unusual, with longstanding ljs, since I hadn't used the hotmail account in question for years and years and years; but even though it's pretty normal behavior, it's (obviously!) not good. so it's worth it for all of you to check and make sure you aren't giving a vulnerable email access to your journal: http://www.livejournal.com/tools/emailmanage.bml

BASICALLY DON'T GET HACKED YOU GUYS ON ACCOUNT OF, IT SUCKS

MAYBE HOVER OVER IT WITH YOUR MOUSE BEFORE YOU CLICK

i thought everyone did this. it seems like common sense to me!

True, but they also used a TinyURL link in the last post, which is a good way to hide the true contents of a link from the average websurfer.

I use a Greasemonkey script that tells me where those kinds of redirecting addresses actually go when I mouseover the link, but I also know not everyone has that level of control over their browser (especially at work or school).

Good luck getting it all sorted out! My virus scanners haven't picked anything up and I was already running NoScript for protection from this kind of thing, but I'll do more scans just in case. Thanks for the heads up. :X
oh man major iconlove goin on. :)
Does anyone know of a virus scan for the Mac? I can't find anything and unfortunately I clicked the link...

As far as I know, Macs are supposed to be safe? That's what I've heard, anyway.

The Russian never quite managed to emulate your use of expletives;

"Fuck": The Best Identity Insurance. (Good to have you back.)
hahahaha sad but fuckin accurate.

ps also i really appreciate rahm's Sad Clown Face in this, my time of affliction.

yaaaay, this fills me with happiness. A couple of friends and I have been putting the word out to our flists about what was happening and where to get keyscramblers and antivirus programs both times it happened, so now it is good to know that hopefully now the need to do so is over. :)

Good luck with getting dorkorific all restored; I hope LJ comes through for you!
I'm sorry it happened to you! I'm glad it's getting all worked out for you.
I was so desperate for updates, I clicked the links both times. ;^;
I think it did trip my computer up, though. It keeps telling me to repair commands... >>;;

Hopefully these links (thankfully REAL links) will fix everything.

Thanks and good luck!
I'm so glad everything seems to be straightened out. You know we all love you! ♥
Icon. Love. Stealing.
Well shit.

So sorry this happened to you. :( I have a copy of Norton 360 and I'm running it on my compy as soon as I get home.
So so glad you got this sorted. I figured from the semi-lousy English it wasn't you and warning bells went off, but I had no idea who was minding the store. Which, you know, sucked because you're cool and the impulse to fix just washed over me like a mommy-wave. Anyway, I'm going to add your alternate ego sashayed so I can keep up with you. Good luck with everything and I'm looking forward to hearing about your adventures- are you in DC with the Obamanians?
OMG SO GLAD YOU'RE BACK. SUCK IT, RUSSIAN HACKERS, YOU CANNOT DEFEAT SHOEBOX!

Sadly, it wasn't the (sort of) lack of links that made me believe it was really you - it was the lack of uppercase letters and phrases like "EAT IT" =P

Good luck getting things restored! I'll send a memo to Sarah Palin to keep a closer eye on her neighbors ;)
I can tell it's you because of how you write 8<

I'm so glad you guys got it back! <3

Yeah, me either! So I just went to hotmail and reactivated the old email that I had originally had up, and I hope that works for me.

I really don't know why they won't let us delete the old emails. Anyone have any idea?

I'm glad you actually still exist! Sucks that this has to happen. :(

But good advice!
